The Lincoln County Commissioners signed an agreement with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, City of Wellston and Oklahoma Department of Transporation for a project on Turner Turnpike.

According to OTA Assistant Executive Director Joe Echelle OTA needs to do a complete replacement of the Turner Turnpike bridge that crosses over Route 66 on the east side of Wellston.

Echelle said they will be widening Turner Turnpike to six lanes and will have to close Route 66.

Traffic will be detoured, but this new partnership will allow the detour to be shorter for local traffic by paving county roads.

For commercial and semi-trucks, traffic will have to use SH-177 to US-62 to SH-102 and vice versa.

Echelle said this partnership will allow county roads to be paved, shortening the detour for local traffic.

Echelle said the estimated start date will be the end of 2021 because the OTA is still working on getting the right of ways, and then moving utilities, which he said can take up to six months each.

Echelle said this bridge project is the most challenging bridge project within the Turner Turnpike.

“It’s time,” he said. “It’s needs to be done.”

The estimated cost for this project is $26 million.
