The Lincoln County Commissioners held a special meeting on Sept. 23, where they approved grant applications and county speed signs.
The Commissioners first approved pursuing a planning grant for the Department of Transportation PROTECT Grant. The grant program is to help with raising or paving county roads that are prone to flooding. Lincoln County Emergency Management said there were about 136 roads in the county that could benefit. The planning grant has no matching requirement.
The Commissioners also approved an application from the Sheriff’s Office for the Sexual Assault and Confinement Facility Grant. The grant would be for just over $1 million (and no more than $2 million) and has no matching.The grant will fund software from Cellebrite and GrayKey to break into cellphones and download data for evidence.
They next approved the Emergency Management Performance Grant of about $36,000 with a match of $18,000. The match funds will first come from Use Tax, but then be reimbursed from sales tax M&O funds. The grant will be used to purchase two boats.
The Commissioners then approved a Use Tax Resolution for county highway MPH signs. The signs will be placed on highways as they enter the county, stating that the speed limit is 35mph on county roads unless otherwise posted.
