Cushing man gets 13 years for secret filming

A District Judge has honored a Lincoln County jury’s decision and sentenced a Cushing man to 13 years in the Department of Corrections.

Joseph Lee Rolan, 43, was convicted recently by a jury on one of three felony counts.Thejuryfoundhimguiltyonthe charge of using video equipment in a clandestine manner and recommended he serve 13 years in prison.

Last Friday, District Judge John Canavan, who presided over the trial, sentenced him to the 13 years in DOC andassessedhima$100VCAandcourt costs. He was ordered to report to the Court Clerk’s Office within 180 days of his release.

Rolan had waived a pre-sentence investigation.

The jury found Rolan innocent on two counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16 after former conviction of two or more felonies.

Assistant District Attorney Rachel Thompson prosecuted the case and Royce Hobbs was the attorney for Rolan.

Roland was charged in Lincoln County District Court on June 8, 2022 with the two counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16 after former conviction of two or more felonies.The third count, the one he was convicted of, was filed on Feb. 17, 2023, according to court records.

Supplemental information filed in the case shows that Roland was convicted in Payne County District Court on Feb. 22, 2019 of Count 1, Assault and Battery on a police officer and Count 2, attempting to elude.

On Feb. 22, 2019, he was also convicted in Payne County District Court of two counts of burglary of an automobile.
