Early voting begins

Early voting for next Tuesday’s municipal and school elections across Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties begins today, Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Election Board in Chandler and the Pottawatomie County Election Board in Shawnee.

There are 11 different entities in Lincoln County having elections in Lincoln County and one of area interest in Pottawatomie County. In Lincoln County, several municipalities and school boards have contests and voters in the Prague School District will decide a $22,410,000 bond issue for the purpose of constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings. In Chandler there is a race for mayor between Kent McVey and Tony Wilson. There is also a three-way contest for the Ward II council seat. Incumbent Virgil Wilson has two opponents, David Burgess and Cameron McBride.

Other municipalities and schools having races include: Stroud: City Council Ward 2, Phyllis L. Craig, Raphe Thompson.

Stroud School Board, Office No. 3 JP Morris, Shane Niccum.

Davenport Board of Trustees, fouryear terms, vote for two. Kimberly Mayhall, Jennifer Miller, Mitchell Booze.

Tryon Board of Trustees, four-year terms, vote for three. Sandy Munier, Rocky Cooper, Cody E. Coleman, Timothy Anderson, Richard Meyer.

White Rock Elementary School, Office No. 3, David M. Brockman, Peyton A. Peters.

Wellston Public Schools, Office No. 3, Dorothy Swanda, Bradley Pittman.

Agra Board of Trustees, 4-year terms, vote for three: Laura Brown, Janene Stevens, Patricia Roe, Lori Molloy.

Agra Board of Trustees unexpired term, vote for one, Justin Brown, Jimmie Derrel Watkins.

Luther Public Schools, Office No. 3, Charles DeFuria, Brandon Rogers.

Cushing School District, Office No. 3, Trudy Evans, Brian Zwanziger.

McLoud City Council, Ward 1, Phil Solinger, Ralph Snider.

Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day, have the option of voting early at their County Election Board. Lincoln County Election Board Secretary, Melissa Stambaugh, and Pottawatomie County Election Board Secretary Patricia Carter said early voting is open to all voters.

Voters must cast their ballots at their respective precincts on Tuesday, April 4.

Stambaugh pointed out a polling place change in Lincoln County for Precinct 410015 effective immediately. Voters in that Precinct who formerly voted at Hillsdale Baptist Church, 333892 E. Highway 62 in McLoud, will now vote at KTO Gymnasium (Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma Gymnasium), 106684 S. Highway 102, 1¾ miles south of the intersection of Highway 62 and Highway 102 in McLoud.

Voters affected by the changes received new Voter ID cards in the mail with their new polling place information, she said.
