Five in a row!

The Dale Pirates acknowledge their fans Saturday at the OG&E Coliseum after winning their fifth consecutive Class 2A state championship. The Pirates romped past Fairland, 82-40, in the finals and finished 30-2 for the season. The Pirates won their first four titles under Jeff Edmonson and the fifth under first-year head coach Fletcher Reed. Three other teams from our area were in the state tounament last week. The McLoud girls, under coach Lindsay Myers, got to eliminate their arch-rivals, Harrah, in the first round and advanced to the semis, where they fell to top-ranked and eventual champion Lincoln Christian. The North Rock Creek boys and Dale girls also made it to state, but lost in the opening round. For more on area sports, see Page 1-4C and 1-3D. Photo/Rick Hester
