Herring on Top 10 list

Chandler’s Neleigh Herring has been named to D1Softball magazine’s pre-season list of Top 10 first basemen in the country.

A senior at Wichita State, she started off the 2022 season with five hits, including two home runs, and five RBI in her first 12 at-bats. Last year, she hit .375 with 10 homers and 35 RBI.

“D1Softball’s staff selects the preseason All-America teams with one guiding principle in mind: to identify the best and most valuable college softball players for the 2022 season,” according to the D1Softball web site. “Our power rankings are based upon the same principle and will be released bi-monthly throughout the season.”

Herring earned four letters each in softball and basketball while at Chandler and helped lead the Lady Lions to state championships in slowpitch and fastpitch. She was the 66 Conference most valuable player three times in softball and was on the all-conference team for four years. She was named to the Little All-City team three times, was chosen for the Oklahoma Fast Pitch Coaches Association All-State team and was Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Winner in 2017.

At Wichita State, she was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll after earning a 4.0 GPA, was on the NFCA All-Central Region Second Team and was named to the American All-Conference First Team.
