A McLoud man was charged with assault and battery on a police officer and obstructing an officer, according to court documents.
Joseph Wade Murdock, 43, was charged on March 24 for an incident that occurred on or about March 20.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Dep. Houston Byford and Dep. Angelo Guerrieri with the Lincoln County Sheriff ’s Department were dispatched to a verbal domestic after a call was madebyawomanidentified as Murdock’s mother.
The woman said that her son was on the property, allegedly threatened to kill her and that she wanted him gone.
When the deputies arrived, they found the woman outside. According to the report, she informed Byford and Guerrieri that Murdock was inside with her teen granddaughter. As they approached the residence, Murdock reportedly locked the doors to keep them out.
The woman had her granddaughter unlock the doors and told the deputies that Murdock didn’t have access to weapons. The report said Murdock refused to speak to the deputies without his lawyer present.
There was a verbal back and forth with Murdock as he attempted to gather his possessions to leave. During this time, the granddaughter left the home, saying he had allegedly threatened to beat her up. Kickapoo Tribal Officer Harjo advised the deputies that Murdock had an active warrant through the Kickapoo Police Department. Shortly after, Off. De La Cruz arrived and began speaking to Murdock as he was leaving the house, according to the report.
Murdock reportedly yelled at his mother and the granddaughter before locking himself in his truck, despite De La Cruz telling him that he had a warrant, the affidavit said.
There was an altercation involving Murdock, De La Cruz, Byford and Harjo. As the officers attempted to take him into custody, Murdock reportedly fought them, resulting in him being stunned with tasers, according to the affidavit.
Eventually, he was taken into custody and EMS was requested to the scene by Byford. Murdock was eventually transferred to the hospital in Shawnee, where he was medically cleared and then transported to Lincoln County Jail.
