Meeker Board of Education members this week adopted a resolution approving the annual school election and were presented the high school and middle school drop out report for 2021.
Filing period for the annual school election will be Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 5-7. Office No. 3 on the Meeker School Board will be up for election.
That position is currently held by Board President Ashley Sellers. She said following Monday night’s board meeting that she will not seek a new term.
High School Principal Brad Buxton reported to the board that dropouts were a little more in 2021. He said there were eight, noting, “I think it’s a little bit of a hangover from the 2020 Spring with COVID.”
He told the board, too, that the Middle School dropouts were only 2 in 2021.
In his college remediation report, Buxton said from the 2021 class there were 22 students seeking college and that only four needed remediation in math and reading.
Ginger Pritchard, Meeker Education Center/Alternative Education Principal, reported that 69 students K-12 are taking advantage of the virtual and blended learning opportunities.
She indicated she doesn’t see much change until the semester.
Pritchard also advised board members of Farming Heritage Day at Meeker, that she had invited members of the Shawnee Tractor and Engine Club to the school on Wednesday of this week. She and her husband Steve, a retired Vo-Ag teacher at McLoud who was there for nearly 40 years, are part of that club.
Middle School and High School classes were to participate.
Elementary School Principal Candice Gatz reported enrollment is 339, that a couple of students had moved from the district recently.
In other business, the board approved of administering the ACT to eligible juniors in the spring of 2023.
Without going into executive session, the board accepted the resignation of Alana Owen, an elementary school aide.
