A college student from McLoud is one of ten students who earned the distinction of performing as a soloist at Oklahoma Baptist University’s annual Concerto-Aria Concert, according to a press release from the university.
Altas Quirk from McLoud will perform “Voi che sapete” from “Le Nozze di Figaro, K. 492” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Quirk is a mezzo-soprano and junior music education major.
The soloists are made up of both singers and instrumentalists. All will be accompanied by a full orchestra composed of students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the public. The orchestra will be directed by Dr. Timothy Kaiser, director of instrumental activities and assistant professor of instrumental music education, the release said.
The concert is free and open to the public, taking place on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center. The first Concerto-Aria Concert was held in 1974 to highlight outstanding musical performers at OBU. Students perform a collection of classic pieces as well as original compositions.
