The Stroud American Legion Auxiliary held their April meeting on Monday, April 5th. Members attending were Aleta Smalley, Velma Brant, Maxine Jordan, Diana Reed, Julie Bivin, Linda Waller, Pam Hunt, Jo Braden and Diana McGuire. The meeting was called to order by President Diana Reed. Chaplain Jo Braden gave the prayer and Sergeant at Arms Velma Brant led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. An update was given on Girls State by Pam Hunt, Girl’s State Liaison. This year’s session will be held virtually at Stroud High School. Since it will be held locally the Auxiliary may send as many delegates as are interested. Currently there are sponsorships for eleven girls to attend. In previous years, the Auxiliary has only been able to send two delegates.
If you know of any young woman who has just completed her junior year and would be interested in being a part of this unique opportunity, please contact any Auxiliary member. The Stroud chapter is working to bring some other girls from the surrounding area’s chapters to participate with the Stroud delegates.
The Auxiliary will host this year’s Memorial Day service at Stroud Cemetery. -The program will begin on Monday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. Chairs and cold water will be available so that all who are interested may attend. The American Legion Post #257 will honor our deceased veterans with a 21- gun salute. Plans are underway to place flags on the veteran’s graves on Thursday, May 27th beginning at 9:00 a.m. Come join us and bring your children with you. It’s a great teaching moment.
Other items discussed were an Auxiliary t-shirt, a t-shirt fundraiser and the American flag discard box which will soon be placed on Main Street. Members were informed that long-time Auxiliary member Francis Hixon has moved her residence to the Stroud Health Care Center South.
The next meeting will be May 3rd at the American Legion building.
