Stroud Beta Alpha meets

Stroud’s Laureate Beta Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority members met in May for a wrap up meeting before adjourning for the summer. Linda Stephens, President, presided over the business session and hostess was Vice President, Pam Hunt. Members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries were recognized.

Traditionally, children or grandchildren of members graduating from high school or college are recognized with a monetary gift. Recognized were Davenport High School graduate, Wyatt McGee, son of Davina McGee, and Sand Springs Graduate, Ian Paine, grandson of Darlene Lau.

The meeting was preceded by the annual pot luck dinner using the new yearly theme, “90 Years Strong”, noting the sorority will begin the 90th year since its founding on April 30, 1931.

Final reports of projects the chapter participated in over the abbreviated year were given and the executive committee presented the budget, discussed fundraisers to support service projects and made committee assignments for the new year that will begin in September with a full schedule planned.

Sixty year member Sue Helms was recognized for the Diamond anniversary of her membership and presented a Certificate of Achievement from the organization recognizing her many years of dedication to the sorority.

A review of the year’s activities was completed using the Beta Sigma Phi Yardstick, a tool to measure the success of the chapter’s program of work. The result showed a balance of activities for the members’ enjoyment with a Three Star rating.

Social chair Davina McGee led a drawing for new secret sisters and the meeting concluded with the revealing of secret sisters and a gift exchange. Following the meeting a baby shower was held for Rachel Shields and son, and they were presented a silver baby cup and Beta Sigma Phi baby charm, along with gifts from the members.

Others attending were Cindy Mason, Linda Waller, Rachel Shields, Pam Clement, Darlene Lau, Sandy Jones, Kim Johnson, Mary Jackson and Chris Hodge.
