A Stroud man died in a two-vehicle traffic collision in the city limits.
Stroud Police Chief Clint Gaylord identified the victim who died in the collision as Randy VanFossen, 68.
Gaylord reported that VanFossen had to be extricated from the 1989 GMC pickup he was driving. He was transported to Stroud Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from severe internal injuries, the chief said. Stroud police officers and firefighters responded to the scene at SH 99 and County Road 850 about 3:46 p.m. Officers identified the other driver involved was Brent Nobles, 44, of Jennings.
Nobles was driving a 2000 Kenwoth semi tractor trailer, the police officers reported.
Gaylord said his officers reported their investigation showed that VanFossen was traveling northbound on SH 99 attempting to turn west onto County Road 850 when his pickup truck was struck by the semi tractor trailer which was also traveling northbound.
Nobles was taken to Stroud Hospital by Stroud police officers for a blood draw due to the fatality collision and was later released.
A passenger in the semi tractor trailer, Richard Martinez, 71, Pawnee, was not injured and was released from the scene, officers reported.
Officers reportedly determined that Nobles was attempting to pass slowing vehicles that were following VanFossen in a no passing zone at the time of the collision.
The officers’ investigation is on-going, Gaylord reported.
