After postponing meetings since March due to the Covid virus, members of Stroud’s Beta Sigma Phi chapter gathered in the backyard of Linda Waller for some social time with social distancing.
Mary Jackson, President, presided over the business and recognized members with birthdays or anniversaries over the last few months. Family members graduating in May were recognized with a gift of cash.
Graduating were Sara Jackson, who received a Bachelor’s Degree and Emily McGee, Davenport High School.
Reports were given on activities before the quarantine, including a St Patrick’s Day social hosted by the social committee chaired by Cindy Mason with a baked potato bar served and games of Crazy Bridge.
Reports were also given on the the last business meeting, hosted by Pam Clement and Darlene Lau.
During the meeting a program was presented by guest speaker, Heather Chace, member of Stroud High School faculty, who along with Bobbi Wintz, co-sponsors “Be Nice Week,” a Student Council program with the goal of planting seeds of kindness and learning how to treat people.
She explained how the popular program works and has brought about positive change in attitude of students and faculty.
She also noted that at the close of the week of activities, students recognize a person they feel exhibits the traits of kindness every day.
This year’s winner was Beta Sigma Phi member, Linda Waller, a SHS cafeteria employee, who was presented flowers and gift by the Student Council.
Following reports, dessert was served and glasses painted with pink flamingos by Davina McGee were given to members.
Pam Hunt presented a program on the Woman of the Year and Program of the Year awards that will be announced at the last meeting of the sorority year later in the month when Officers will also be installed.
The new Officers are Linda Stephens, President; Pam Hunt, Vice President; Chris Hodge, Treasurer; Davina McGee, Recording Secretary; Kim Johnson, Corresponding Secretary; and Michelle Hodge, Extension Officer.
