Chandler High School seniors Emily Horn and Destiney Stewart were named Lions of the Month for May by the Lion’s Club.
Emily Horn, the daughter of Brian Horn and Emily Horn, maintained a 3.98 grade point average while taking advanced classes in both English and Math earning her the title of 2022 Class Salutatorian.
Emily’s efforts earned her an invitation to the CHS Academic Banquet for four years. She is a two-year member of the National Technical Honor Society.
Emily was also a student in Health Careers at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla., for two years. She completed Certified Nursing Assistant Education and is certified as an emergency medical responder, phlebotomist, unit health clerk, medication aide and medical coder.
A member of Health Occupations Students of America, Emily achieved the gold level in workplace readiness and second place in the state for HOSA job interviewing skills.
She was active in crosscountry and track.
Her community involvement includes fundraising and collecting donations for such organizations as Legacy Parenting, Angel Tree, Coats for Kids and food drives.
She participated with her HOSA class in the Be The Match, part of the National Marrow Donor Program to raise money and bring awareness of the need for donors.
In addition to her schoolwork and extracurricular activities, Emily works for Subway and Complete Home Health.
Her future plans are to continue her education at GCTC to obtain her Licensed Practical Nursing degree while completing basic classes online through the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Once completing both courses, she plans to merge into the UCO Registered Nursing Program to earn a Bachelor of Nursing in Science degree with the goal of working in an emergency room.
Destiney Stewart is the daughter of James and Jennifer Stewart. She holds a 3.80 GPA while taking two years of advanced classes in English and concurrent classes at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
She was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and was named Student Rotarian of the Month for February. She earned an invitation to the CHS Academic Banquet.
A six-year participant in Music Makers and the Chandler High School Choir, Destiney was selected for the East Central Oklahoma Choir Directors Association Honor Choir for two years. She received superior ratings at the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association District Solo and Ensemble contest for five years and is a CHS Outstanding Voice Award recipient.
Destiney also participated in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; and is a member of SkillsUSA, a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to prepare leadership in the workforce.
She is active in the community as a worship, small group, and discipleship leader at Chandler Southern Baptist Church. She was the chorus leader for the 2022 Spring Musical and is a life member of Girl Scouts.
Destiney works as a babysitter and does mowing and weed-eating for multiple people.
After graduation, she plans to work toward a degree in graphic design at Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla., before transferring to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond to finish her degree. Destiney plans to be in the Rose State choir and take additional classes in photography and interior design to reach her goal of having a career in making logos, banners, clothing designs, magazines, posters, brochures, etc.
