Meeker to have prom

COVID-19 has robbed the 2020 senior class of their last game with their teammates, last choir concert with their fellow artists and last class with their favorite teachers.

However, one community is determined to give their seniors one last memory through an old tradition.

The Meeker Chamber of Commerce and Meeker community is hosting a junior-senior prom June 3 from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. at Ladonnas’s Grill.

Meeker Chamber of Commerce President Kristin Ludi said she saw another town had put together a prom for its seniors, so she asked the Meeker community if they’d be interested in doing the same thing for their own students.

“I think we need to pull something off for our seniors,” she said.

Within the Executive Order signed by Governor Stitt, schools are not allowed to host any type of event.

“I think it’s important because it’s a tradition that I just feel that they should be robbed of,” she said. “It’s kind of a right of passage that they get to go through and it’s something that creates a lot of memories that they’re going to have for the rest of their lifetime. I wanted to see that happen, no matter what it looks like.”

The theme of this year’s prom is Rustic Charm and the cost for a ticket is $20.

“There will be food, dancing and photos.” Ludi said.

Ludi is planning the event and said there will be a tent in the parking lot for dancing with Kio Richardson as the DJ.

Inside the newly remodeled LaDonna’s Grill, there will be a professional photographer to take candid photos, as well as a photo booth.

For the food, there will be three different options available.

Ludi said it’s going to be the night before the graduation, making it a senior send off.

Volunteers are needed the day before and the day of to set up. Ludi said to contact her at 405-279-3712 if anyone is interested in getting involved.
