A communication system that allows the Town of Meeker to communicate with citizens regarding a number things should be up and running within about 30 days.
Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn said recently that people should be able to sign up within about a week to participate.
During their January Board meeting, Trustees voted 4-1 in approving the system with Trustee Lanny Thompson casting the opposing vote.
In favor were Mayor Donna Weber, Vice Mayor Aaron Head and Trustees Mike Orman and Mike Melton.
Town officials said cost of the system will be $2,200 per year with a set up fee of $1,100 for the first year totaling $3,300 to be split between the General Account and the PublicWorks Account, they explained.
During their meeting last week, the Trustees, meeting as the Public Works Authority, also voted 4-1 to approved the system.
In their meeting last week, the Trustees also unanimously approved a lease agreement between the Town of Meeker and Meeker Little League Baseball, Softball and Basketball Association contingent upon proof of insurance.
City Clerk/Treasurer Mary Conner said Trustees voted to accept a donation of lights and poles by Patriot Environmental, the installation of poles by Canadian Valley Electric and Above All Electric to connect electricity of the lights at the ball field at Meeker Lake. This will result in no cost to theTown of Meeker, she said.
Wilbourn will inform Little League officials that the field may not be available in the future because of the proposed lake project.
Wilbournsaidthatduring a lengthy discussion in the most recent meeting that he has been authorized to reach out to OG&E to see if they have an economic development program that can guide Town officials in their endeavor to increase revenue for the Town of Meeker.
“We’re not wanting to burden the citizens,” he noted.
The board also authorized Wilbourn and Conner to research what the best option is on an Internet proposal between Windstream Enterprise andVyve Broadband.
The board voted to allow Wilbourn to make the decision what needs to be done.
