The last program in the Sac and Fox Nation not to have its own building, will not hold that title much longer.
Construction on the Sac and Fox transportation building is in the final stages, and is one of the largest indoor Sac and Fox facilities. The building will provide offices for the transportation program as well as spaces for the tribe’s elders and veterans.
The interior of the building is nearly complete, and the exterior paving work is starting.
“We’ll have final inspections on the building part Friday,” project manager Randle Carter said.
The project is currently ahead of its original completion date: June 8. Although completing paving will be dependent upon weather.
“We’re actually goinfg to finish under budget on the building part,” Carter said. “And more than likely under budget on the paving so overall we’ll be under budget.”
Due to COVID-19 concerns, tribal leaders are not reopening the travel offices until June 1, so a grand opening will most likely not be scheduled until government operations return to full time status, Carter said.
The new facilities are designed to be ADA compliant and include an outdoor gas firepit and two large conference rooms that can hold 100 people each.
The building contains FEMA rated private storm shelters in the bathrooms for the protection of those at the facilities during bad weather.
