Joel Paul Schofield, 41, of Chandler was charged with possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, possession of controlled dangerous substance, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest.
According to the affidavit filed by Stroud Police Officer Wade Martin, on April 18, Martin was driving northbound on Highway 99 when he saw a vehicle with an inoperable license plate lamp pull out of Territory Cellars Winery in Stroud. Martin pulled the vehicle over. When Martin put his vehicle in park, the other vehicle tried to take off. The front seat passenger bailed out of the passenger door window and continued southbound into a wooded area, according to the affidavit.
The driver stopped the vehicle and put his hands out the window. He was identified as Thad Tucker. Tucker said the male had a silver handgun and had pointed it at his side when he had stoped for the traffic stop. Tucker said the male was heading to Josh Pearman’s residence in the Salt Creek Trailer Park.
Due to previous altercations, Martin believed the male to be Schofield.
According to the affidavit, Tucker was released at the scene due to COVID-19 and was advised that a warrant would be applied for.
With Stroud Police Officer Christopher Hyde and Lincoln County Deputy James Robinson, they met at the Salt Creek Trailer Park.
Martin looked inside and saw Schofield’s head poke up from behind the entertainment center, according to the affidavit.
Schofield jumped up and attempted to jump over the porch, but Deputy Robinson grabbed him and took him to the ground, according to the affidavit.
The small silver pistol was found taped under the entertainment center and a clear baggie with a white powdery substance was found in his back pocket along with a marijuana pipe, according to the affidavit.
Schofield’s bond is $25,000. He will have his pre-preliminary hearing Thursday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m.
