Stroud’s Laureate Beta Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority adjourned for the summer after meetings to recognize members for outstanding sorority work. Pam Hunt presided over her final meeting as President and was thanked for leading the chapter. One meeting was hosted by Linda Stephens, who served a light supper and members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries during the month were recognized.
Stephens presented a program on her family history, immigrating from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900’s and settling in Prague, OK. The Simek name is well known in the area as her great grandfather was commissioned to deliver a replica of the infant Jesus to the United States where it is still on dispay at the Shrine in Prague.
Reports were given on chapter activities including hosting the annual Mother’s Day luncheon. Chaired by Kim Johnson, Pam Hunt and Chris Hodge, guests shared pictures and memories of mothers and other family members while enjoying a variety of dishes.
Darlene Lau was named Woman of the Year and Pam Hunt and Linda Waller were named Program of the Year recipients for programs on “Stroud’s Mermaid” and “History of the downtown Tulsa Tunnels.”
The final meeting of the sorority year was the celebration of the anniversary of the chapter’s charter in 1979. Sandy Jones, charter member, hosted and a potluck dinner followed by cake decorated in honor of the chapters 44 years in Stroud was served. The new International Beta theme, “Come Grow With Us,” was used and new officers assumed duties. President, Sue Helms, led the business and final report of the year’s projects were given including a fundraiser in support of the Diabetes Foundation in honor of member, Kim Johnson, who lives with the diseases.
The event, with the assistance of Stroud’s 99 Nutrition, raised $400 in one morning from nutritional drink sales. The Beta Sigma Phi Yardstick, a tool to measure the success of each chapter’s Program of Work was completed and resulted in a Three Star chapter rating, the highest that can be achieved. The meeting concluded with revealing of secret sisters with a gift exchange. Meetings will resume in the fall. Attending the meetings and events were Pam Hunt, Linda Stephens, Sandy Jones, Cindy Mason, Linda Waller, Rachel Shields, Pam Clement, Mary Jackson, Sue Helms, Michelle Doherty, Terry Crofford, Kim Johnson, Chris Hodge and Darlene Lau.
