Town Talk

Baseball season is coming to an end. I just spent the last week in Destin, Florida watching Gideon play in the World Series for his age group. It was a wonderful experience for their team. They played in the championship and fell a little short but were excited to take home second place. Lawyer Plunkett, son of Johnna and Rance Plunkett and Beau Ackerman, son of Stephanie and Chet Ackerman also traveled to play in their age division. All three boys play for the Sandlots. I was visiting with Paul Mercer and he told me when he played “back in the day” they thought a trip to play baseball in Meeker or Prague was a big deal. Things have certainly changed over the years.

Speaking of baseball, Stroud Little League president, Stephen McCammon, said Stroud will be hosting the regional tournament for T-ball this week, June 30th and July 1st and the eight and under regional tournament on July 5th through the 9th.

We will have visitors in our community so business owners, get ready. Macco and Town Talk are putting together “Wel come to Stroud” bags for each player. The bags have a baseball motif and say “Welcome to our home.”

They will be filled with flyers, coupons and advertising for our community. If you would like to donate something to be placed in the bag, please contact me at 918-527-9833.

Stroud will be hosting a community blood drive on Saturday, July 16th from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Stroud’s First Baptist Church’s family life center. You may call Debbie Henley at 918-968-2516 to schedule an appointment. Donors will receive a blood donor hero t-shirt and a choice of one ticket from Safari Joe’s, Science Museum of Oklahoma or Frontier City.

Stroud will be celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks in the park on Monday, July 4th. The swimming pool will be open from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Our fire department will be serving hotdogs and have lots of games lined up for everyone to play, including disc golf and water activities. Bring your family and come join in the fun.
