Deena Rae Miller Rains

Deena Rae Miller Rains, 91, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, in Shawnee, Okla.

Deena was born August 30, 1930, in Payson, Okla., to Glenn and Emily Gertrude (Barbee) Miller. Deena attended Pleasant Grove School north of Meeker and later attended Meeker High School. Deena contracted Polio in 1943 and spent time at the Children’s Hospital in Tulsa for recovery and rehabilitation. She married Donald V. Miller on February 28, 1951, in Chandler, Okla. He proceeded her in death on January 10, 1978. Deena and her husband were owners of the Miller’s Grocery Store located between Meeker and Chandler from 1965-1978. Deena later worked at the Chandler Walmart in the jewelry department until her retirement. She married Earl Rains on May 1, 1999. Deena and Earl spent time gardening, fishing, and traveling across the U.S. She was a member of the Forest Baptist Church and later joined the First Baptist Church of Sparks.

After living 58 years in her home in Lincoln County, Deena moved to the Primrose Retirement Community in Shawnee. She made many friends and especially loved playing Bingo at Primrose.

Deena was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Miller; son, Noel Miller; her brothers, Nolan Miller and Donald G. Miller; her husband Earl Rains; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; her nephews, Albert Miller, and Larry Miller; and her niece Elaine Miller Flowers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Preston Fry of Shawnee; grandchildren, Jill Fry, Bruce Fry, Marla Miller Cooper and her husband Ian, Kayla Miller, Valerie Saulsberry, Tammi Bertram, Misti McClendon, and Ryan McClendon; her beautiful great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Dr. William Mitchell and his wife Mae; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose as well as the nurses who cared for her during her brief stays at Shawnee’s St Anthony’s Hospital and Colonial Estates.
