Julia Mae (Penny) Denwalt

Julia Mae (Penny) Denwalt was born October 5, 1936 in Union City, Mo., to Roy Edward and Gladys Helen (Chastain) Penny. She passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the OU Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Julia attended Bethany Nazarene College. She married George Denwalt Jr. on April 8, 1960 in Oklahoma City. She has lived in the Wellston and Luther area for the past 57 years and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wellston.

Julia worked at Children’s Hospital for the state of Oklahoma for 18 years. She worked as a supervisor for the medical equipment department and retired from the state in 1998.

Julia enjoyed the great outdoors. As an example of her leadership abilities, she coached a girls softball team for the 3rd and 4th grade in 1971. The team won every game and two tournaments.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Gladys Penny of Springfield, Mo.; her husband George Denwalt Jr. of Luther; one grandson Travis Denwalt of the home.

She is survived by one sister, Norma Lorenz of Springfield, Mo. (along with her spouse and children); one brother, Alfred Penny of Springfield, Mo. (along with his spouse and children); three children, Deborah Winfrey of Hobart, Okla., Teresa Denwalt of Luther, Okla., and George (Skip) Denwalt of Wellston, Okla.; nine grandchildren - Kevin, Michael, Mindy, and Kathy Parker of Hobart, Okla., Jennifer and Joshua Smith of Luther, Okla., Dylana, Tailor, and Gabby Denwalt of Little Axe, Okla.; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family members, and friends.

She will be forever in our hearts and always in our minds.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at The Way to Jerusalem Church. Interment will follow at Wellston Cemetery in Wellston, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home.
