The American Legion is missing some of its chairs. If you borrowed any chairs or know someone who has, please contact Commander Mike Horwath or me. The Legion is a non-profit organization and renting their building is one of the things that keeps the organization afloat. They do not have the funds to replace chairs and need them for meetings and rentals. Please return any chairs you might have borrowed.

It’s finally going to happen. Next Monday and Tuesday Jose Hernandez from Enid will be in town at the Veteran’s Memorial to engrave additional bricks that Town Talk sold as a fundraiser. We sold an additional forty-eight bricks to be added to the Memorial. My dad, Ed. Smalley, thought Stroud needed a structure to honor our veterans and along with my mom, Billy and Alice Faye Brown and James Meadows raised the funds to construct it.

Class of 1954 alum Albert Ring passed away on February 27th. After graduation from high school, he joined the army and served for nine years. He retired from the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and then worked for several years for the Sac and Fox Nation as a security guard. Class of 1957 alum Darlene Holland Gann passed away on March 2nd at her home in Stroud after a short battle with cancer. Darlene was born in Stroud and was a resident her entire life. She raised four active daughters, Cindy, Rhonda, Tammy and Darla. Town Talk offers condolences to both of these families.

St. Patrick’s Day will be Sunday, March 17th. St. Patrick’s Day has been commemoratedonthisdate since St. Patrick’s death in the fifth century. He was a priest who brought Christianity to Ireland. He was not officially a saint though because there was no canonization in the 400’s. Pinching people on St. Patrick’s Day is thought to revolve around the leprechaun and the legend that wearing green makes one invisible to the mischievous fairies. I think it would be in your best interest to check out our local merchants to see what green merchandise they have on the shelves so that you can avoid that ominous “pinch.” Thanks for choosing to shop local………….. first!
