Davenport’s remarkable season came to end Saturday evening in Laverne, as the Bulldogs fell 52-12 in the state quarterfinals.

Davenport finished with a 10-2 record, including an eight-game winning streak.

Laverne advances to the state semi-finals at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale.

The game was scheduled for Friday night, but a storm left about a foot of snow in Laverne earlier in the week, forcing a one-day delay to allow for getting snow off the field.

Laverne jumped out to an early lead and went up 28-0 in the third quarter before Davenport got on the board.

The scoring play was a 33-yard scoring pass from Carson Funk to Colten VanFossen with 7:35 left in the third quarter.

Laverne put two more scores in the period before Davenport came with a 16-yard scoring throw from Funk to Parker Mitchell, making the score 44-12 with less than a minute to go in the period.

Funk threw for 237 yards and the two scores, completing 15 of 24 passes. He also ran 11 times for 18 yards.

Chance Acord com pleted three of six throws for 68 yards.

Parker Mitchell was Davenport’s leading rusher, carrying nine times for 60 yards, and Cole Yancy added two yards.

VanFossen was the lead ing receiver, catching five passes for 141 yards.

Casey Harelson had five catches for 82 yards, Mitchell had three receptions for 29 yards, Gage Keith had three for 48 yards and Ty Harelson had one grab for five yards.

Defensively, Joseph Acord was the leading tackler, making 14 stops.

Campbell Miller had 11 tackles while Casey Harleson had nine tackles and a pass deflection.

Houston Byfor had eight tackles, Peyton Gaylord made seven and AJ Jenkins and Parker Mitchell had four each.

Jayce Phillips and Jessie Webber had one tackle each.
