Davenport 40, Olive 6

Powered by the rushing of running back Brody Robinson and quarterbackAydan Stancell, the Davenport Bulldogs rolled over Olive last week to secure a 40-6 homecoming win and earn their first district win.

The Bulldogs are now 1-1 in district and 4-3 overall as they head to Waukomis for a Thursday night contest. Waukomis is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in district, Davenport coach Grant Powell.

The head coach noted, “We started off pretty lethargic but we got it done. We made some adjustments at halftime and we never looked back. We were ahead 16-6 at intermission and we didn’t let them score the second half,” he stated.

Robinson had 17 rushes for 146 yards and two touchdowns along with four receptions for 55 yards. One defense he had a total of 15 tackles and an interception return for a TD.

Stancell, starting his second week at quarterback for the injured Chase Mitchell, was six of 11 passing including a TD and rushed the ball 11 times for 113 yards including a touchdown.

On defense, Stancell had a total of 14 tackles, including seven unassisted. Devin Murfin had a total of 10 tackles and Ivan Morris and Tyler Gilkison each had eight total tackles.

Mitchell, who missed his second consecutive game due to a finger injury, had a doctor’s appointment on Monday Powell said to see if surgery might be required.

The coach said of Waukomis, “They run a lot of power, counter plays. We’ll get tested in the trenches. They’re a good football team,” the coach said.

“We’ll spread it out and take advantage of what they do defense,” he added.
