Davenport jumped out and scored first but lost its bid for a spot in the playoffs as Coyle nipped the Bulldogs 36-30.
The Bulldogs finished the season 4-6 overall and 1-4 in district.
Head Coach Grant Powell noted his team fought the injury bug most of the year, “We had five 1-score games. Half of our games we lost by one score and that’s unusual in eight-man football,” Powell said.
Against Coyle, who already had a playoff spot nailed down, Powell told said he told his I kids, “We needed to start fast. And we scored first then they stopped us on the next couple of drives.”
Powell said the Bulldogs trailed 30-24 at the half, “then we came out after halftime and took the ball down and tied it. Then they fumbled and we scored a touchdown but there was an inadvertent whistle that nullified the TD.
“So they got the ball back and took it down and they scored to go ahead.”
Powell said it was a stalemate from there on.
Though the Bulldogs’ season has come to an end, Powell thinks, “We made a lot strides, we made a lot of progress. We have no seniors so we have everybody back and are looking forward to next year.”
