Davenport’s Bulldogs defeated Coyle 31-22 in the final regular game of the season on the road and earned the final spot in the playoffs in the district.
“It makes 21 consecutive years going to the playoffs,” Coach John Greenfield said With the win, the Bulldogs finished 2-3 in the district and placed fourth and are 3-7 overall on the season.
Greenfield said they will travel to Wilson-Henryetta Friday night for a playoff matchup with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Greenfield said, “We pretty well handled them all night. They scored on our substitutes to make it as a close as it was.”
Greenfield said the Bulldogs traveled the length of the field in their opening drive only to bobble the ball and Coyle took over. “But we tackled them in the end zone for a safety and our first points,” he noted.
The coach thought, “We moved the ball at will but we had a few penalties that threw us off. We played good defense. They, (the Bluejackets) earned what they got. We were solid on defense and they got nothing easy,” he added.
