Pott County: Problems at the jail

Pottawatomie County jail officials apparently defied state laws and a judge’s order when they concealed information on the unexplained deaths of seven vulnerable detainees. All seven people arrived at the jail with medical and mental health or substance use complications that required care.

Ava White’s Hounds & Heifers

What started as a way to help sophomore Ava White cover the costs of showing cattle has bloomed into a promising new business. The Chandler student, who is also vice president of the FFA, launched Hounds & Heifers in January 2022, selling pet treats and apparel.

Guilty pleas to felonies

A Meeker man has waived his preliminary hearing and pleaded guilty to two felony charges and drawn deferred terms to run concurrently. Charles Lee Green, 67, was formally charged Feb.

Lincoln County Commissioner’s meeting

Lincoln County commissioners this week accepted a quote for repair and maintenance of air conditioning over the Courthouse area. The motion also included paying for it with money from the Courthouse Improvement fund. The amount is $4,800 from Breeding Heat and Air Co. of Chandler.

Two of three former officials with the City of Tryon facing embezzlement and conspiracy charges have pleaded guilty and been handed deferred sentences.

School elections for Lincoln County voters

Early voting on bond proposals in the McLoud and Luther School Districts for voters who reside in Lincoln County opens today, Sep. 7 and will also be held on Friday, Sep. 8. Those voting next Tuesday, Sep. 12, must cast their ballots at their respective precincts.

Hearing reset for former substitute

The preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for a former Wellston substitute teacher facing four sex-related felonies with minors following an investigation by Lincoln County officers and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Trial set in abuse case

A Chandler man facing a felony charge of domestic abuse by strangulation has pleaded not guilty and a trial date has been set. following a reported incident at a Chandler residence has waived his preliminary hearing.
