Meeker’s Riley Randall was presented the Jim Thorpe Male Cross Country Runner award from the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. A three-time state champion in cross country, Randall was one of 17 athletes from across the state recognized for their outstanding work and achievements. He was on the Meeker High School Bulldogs cross country team, coached by Antony Earley. Riley graduated in May and will attend Oklahoma City University, where he will run cross country and track.

Sugar Time Band to play July 4

Sugar Time Band, a well known group in central Oklahoma will be playing at the Blackhawk Casino in Shawnee from 4 to 8 p.m. July 4. Members of the band are; Joe Navrath of the Prague/Stroud area. Dan Clement of Stroud and Jack Harris of Kellyville.

Stroud and Bethel met Prague on the Red Devil’s home field last Tuesday for a couple hours of 7-on-7 scrimmaging. The three teams took turns having one down possessions in order to put a lot of work into passing plays.

End of an era

In the summer of 1970, a Girl Scout camp in Edmond reached its limit for the number of troops it could hold at one time. Therefore not every troop wanting to attend was able. For one troop leader, her girls not getting to go to camp wasn’t an option.
