Alternatives to the jail

Dear Editor: There is a Lincoln County Special Election on July 13th and Proposition No. 2 on the ballot calls for incurring a 30-year debt to build a new, larger Lincoln County Jail.

Dear Editor: We have had a bad year with the pandemic. A lot of people are out of work and struggling. I do not think it is a good time to put more burdens on the average citizens. Citizens cannot afford necessities like gas and groceries.

James O. “Sonny” Pickett

James “Sonny” Pickett was born on August 18, 1935. He went home peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021, while surrounded by family. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Joann Pickett of Carney. He is survived by his children Betty Makintubee and her husband Steve of Chandler, Okla.

Joseph Leroy Hibdon

Joseph Leroy Hibdon was born to Rita (Danner) Hibdon and Virgil Leroy Hibdon on November 28, 1961, in Oklahoma City. He died Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at his home in Chandler. He was 59 years old. Joseph was a welder for Service King Manufacturing.

Dalbert Leon Thornhill

Dalbert Leon Thornhill was born September 16, 1956, in Oklahoma City. He died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the age of 64 years. Thornhill, the son of Dalbert and Frances Thornhill, married Tonie Place in October 1978 in Davenport.

Jimmy Ralph Carter

Shawnee, Okla., resident Jimmy Ralph Carter, 90, passed from this life June 24, 2021. Services were held Monday, June 28, 2021 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel in Shawnee. Burial followed at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Sarah (Ramirez) Vasquez

Sarah (Ramirez) Vasquez was born April 6, 1925, in Oklahoma City and died Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Oklahoma City. She was 96 years old. Vasquez, the daughter of Vincent and Regina Ramirez, married Bernon Vasquez on November 29, 1947. She worked at El Chico and Roundup Café.

Lord Kordel J.A. Ross-McGuire

Seminole resident Kordel J.A. Ross-McGuire, 25, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021. Kordel, the son of Jeff McGuire and Shonda (Ross) Ross-McGuire, was born January 6, 1996, in Shawnee. He grew up in Seminole and graduated with the Seminole High School Class of 2015.

Sheila Ann Day

Sheila Ann Day departed this life surrounded by family on June 21, 2021 in Stroud, Okla., at the age of 67 years. She was born to LaVonna Mayfield and Jack McKnight on August 28, 1953 in Stillwater, Okla. Sheila grew up locally around Lincoln County. She graduated from Tryon High School.
