A Meeker man has been arrested by Meeker police after they responded to a call of domestic abuse by strangulation and he faces a felony count.
Formal charges of Domestic Assault and Battery by strangulation were filed July 7 in Lincoln County District Court against Darin Dean Owen, 47.
Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk set a $3,000 bond for Owen with the condition he have no contact with the victim.
The judge set his initial appearance for 1:30 p.m. on Sep. 2.
Owen is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the throat, causing injury by strangulation on June 1 in Meeker.
Meeker Police Officer Kyle Crow states in an affidavit that he and Officer Wade South made contact with the girlfriend at the Meeker Police Department about 8:07 a.m. on June 1 regarding a domestic abuse by strangulation.
The officer reported he observed her crying and very emotional and that she also had an abrasion on the left side of the forehead to her temple. He said she had red spots on both eyes, redness, bruising and swelling on her neck.
She told the two officers that her boyfriend, Darin Dean Owen, had strangled her, and that he was also at 328 N. Oak Street.
The officers asked her what she thought during the strangulation and she replied that, “I was going to die.”
She further advised the officers, when asked about previous other occasions, “yes, one other time between Christmas of 2020 and New Year’s of 2021.”
