Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Friday night was Christmas Party Central at Prairie Pointe. A buffet of festive foods and desserts was enjoyed followed by our Secret Buddy Reveal.

A few months ago the staff decided for each of us to choose one special resident and weekly do something nice for them. The rule was, however, it had to be done anonymously.

After that, the staff presented a musical skit entitled The Twelve Days of Christmas at Prairie Pointe. The finale went something like this:

On the 12th day of Christmas Prairie Pointe gave to me ……… 12 call lights flashing, 11 residents in quarantine, 10 masks we’re wearing, 9 Jo’s desserts, 8 families calling, 7 pills we’re popping, 6 rooms we’re cleaning, 5 nasal swabs, 4 COVID tests, 3 square meals, 2 med passes and an apartment in a studio.

Prairie Pointe’s own poet laureate, Margie Testerman, penned a special poem for the occasion. The staff exchanged Dirty Santa gifts and a fun time was had by all.

Monday, the Deer Creek Baptist Church Youth Group prepared and delivered a special lunch in honor of their member Rae Heinzig Bland and all the Prairie Pointe residents and staff who have been taking precautions to keep everyone safe during the pandemic.

The feast included smoked ham, turkey, scalloped potatoes, green beans, hot rolls, garden salad and banana pudding. What a treat!

They also included gifts bags for the all the residents and staff which included candies, a coffee mug and a very nice Daily Devotional book.

Rae played the organ and piano as well as taught Sunday School at Deer Creek for over 60 years. She has missed her church family and they have missed her. Thank you Deer Creek!

Last week Linda Morrison delivered trays of sweet treats for our residents which were thoroughly enjoyed.

And, as dependable as death and taxes, Joe Bill Shelhope always comes through with donuts on Thursdays.

If it’s Thursday, Joe Bill is at the door with boxes of donuts, long johns, and bear claws. We can’t wait until he can come on in and enjoy them with us again. We miss you Joe Bill!

We also enjoyed carolers from the Assembly of God Church Sunday evening. Thanks to everyone who is thinking of our residents during this time of separation from family and friends.

With the vaccine on the way, there is great hope we are close to having this virus behind us; however, the next 30 days could be the worst yet.

There is more virus out there now than ever during the past 9 months.

With that in mind, we urge you to plan a low key Christmas and practice the 3-W’s—Wear your mask, Wash your hands and Watch your distance.

Merry Christmas!
