The Meeker Quilters’ Guild sponsored their 11th annual Summer Quilt Camp July 19 - 21. Mammoth Baptist Church graciously hosted the 3-day event which was attended by eight participants. The goals of the quilt camp were to teach basic sewing and quilting skills, safe use of sewing equipment and machines, teamwork, patience and to have fun while learning the art of quilting. The project this year was a Missouri Star Quilt Company pattern named “Big Wonky Star”
Workshop adult leaders included; Joyce Flowers, Karen Ingle, Marlene Young, Linda Harris, Debbie Price, Larita Peace, Cindy Waters, Amy Seckel, Kristy Jones and Francie Russell.
In the 11 years the Meeker Quilters’ Guild has sponsored the Summer Quilt Camp, 57 individual participants have completed quilts. Of the 57, many of them have attended the quilt camp numerous times for a total of 130 enrollments/quilts.
The Meeker Quilters’ Guild is thankful and appreciative of the community support and Mammoth Baptist Church for helping to keep the art of quilting alive and exciting for a young generation of Oklahomans.
