Meeker Schools’ enrollment is showing an increase, principals informed Board of Education members this week.
Classes for the 2021- 2022 school year begin today (Aug. 12), and principals at the elementary, middle school, high school and Meeker Education Center all indicated their enrollments are up.
High School Principal Brad Buxton reported at site 705 enrollment totals 202 students and there are 10 students at site 701. “We are up about 12 students and we’re still having people coming in each day,” he noted.
New Middle School Principal Rodney Treat advised the board, “We have 43 in the sixth grade, 50 in the seventh and 45 in the eighth. That is up from last year I understand,” he advised the board.
This is Treat’s first year at Meeker.
Meeker Education Center and Alternative Education Principal Ginger Pritchard informed the board, “Overall, we have 58 students K-12 that are taking advantage of the virtual and blended learning opportunities. We were expecting about 46,” she told board members.
She indicated she expects a few more to still enroll.
Elementary Principal Candice Gatz reported enrollment is already up to about 334.
“We’re still getting them in,” she said.
Board President Ashley Sellers pointed out the increase in enrollment turns around recent declines the district has seen.
In other action, board members agreed to offering contracts for the 2021-2022 school year to Phillip Hogan, high school teacher, and Colby Herring, high school and middle school coach.
They also approved adjunct teacher contracts for Pat Hargus, government, and Marcie Simpson, eighth grade science.
The board also amended the 2021-2022 school calendar to align the district’s fall break in October with that of the Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
