Meeker sets election for Town Board seats

The Meeker Town this week adopted a resolution calling for an election in 2021. Three seats will be on the ballot.

The three-day filing period will be from Feb. 1-3 and the General Election is April 6, 2021, Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh said.

The resolution states there will be two 4-year terms to be filled and also there will be one 2-year unexpired term to be filled.

Those currently holding the seats for the fouryear terms to be filled are Mayor Aaron Head and Vice Mayor Jeff Wilbourn.

Currently holding the seat for the two-year unexpired term to be filled is Board member Richard Coleman.

Board members also approved a new ordinance governing garage sales in the Town of Meeker that restricts the number an individual can hold in a calendar year.

The new ordinance restricts the number of garage/estate/rummage sales an individual can have in a calendar year to three including any designated garage sale weekends sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in the Town of Meeker.

Garage, estate or rummage sales may be conducted only on Friday-through Sunday. A $10 permit is required, obtained through the Town Clerk, except the $10 is waived for any city-wide sale held by the Chamber of Commerce.

An individual violating the ordinance and found guilty of it could be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up $159.

The board also amended an ordinance to bring the city of Meeker into compliance with the Public Competitive Bidding Act. The amendment states that competitive bidding is not required for supplies, materials, equipment or contractual services as long as it doesn’t exceed $50,000.

The amount before was $12,500.

The emergency clauses on both ordinances also were approved by the board.

In other action the board tabled a lease agreement between the Town of Meeker and the Meeker Growth and Development Authority regarding property on the east side of 510 W. Carl Hubbell (the old car wash property).

Board members also agreed to cease closing Fowler Street the first of every month in connection with Haggle Days.
