New car dealer for Wellston

A new car dealership is expected to open in the Town of Wellston in late 2021.

Wellston’s Municipal Administrator John Cobb confirmed a Ford Franchise dealership is to be located just east of the Turner Turnpike bridge on U.S. 66. “It will be just south of the eastbound exit,” Cobb said.

Cobb noted the proposed site is an 18,000 square feet facility. “The dealership is on six acres and is part of a total development planned in that area,” he stated.

He said, “They want to break ground in January. The construction company, Clark Construction of Oklahoma City, is the general contractor and has completed its plans and the state fire marshal’s office is reviewing those now.”

Cobb pointed out, “Once they break ground, they want to be open in October or November of 2021.

Cobb said the Franchise owner is not from Wellston but from the Oklahoma City area.

He said with the town being located on the turnpike, the Town Council has approved a sales tax incentive plan for new businesses. “It’s one way we are using to attract businesses.

“It’s a sales tax rebate of up to 3 ½ percent for five years. We negotiate it according to the scope of business, size of the business and retail sales,” Cobb added.

He said he’s not sure of the number of employees the dealership will have. “The showroom will be 3,500 square feet with a 14,000 feet service building,” Cobb stated.

He pointed to the entire total area of 45 acres surrounding the dealership that GTG Investments, LLC in Wellston wants to develop.

Cobb emphasized, “These are exciting times. This is a great opportunity for Wellston to pull a franchise dealership into our town and a great step in our future growth.”
