School board office filing period opens next week

The filing period for school board offices in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties opens next Monday, Dec. 7, and runs through Wednesday, Dec. 9, the two Election Board secretaries have announced.

The filing period for districts across the state is the same time.

Both Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh and Pottawatomie County Election Board Secretary Jeannie Stover said candidates may file for office between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the County Election Board offices in Chandler and in Shawnee.

The Lincoln County Election Board is located in the courthouse at 811 Manvel Avenue, Suite 15, in Chandler, Stambaugh said.

The Pottawatomie County Election Board is located at 14101 Acme Road in Shawnee, Stover said.

Stambaugh said candidates may file for the following offices:

Agra School District, I-134, Office No. 1, 5 year term;

Carney School District, I-105, Office No. 1, 5 year term.

Chandler School District, I-1, Office No. 1,5 year term.

Davenport School District, I-3, Office No. 1, 5 year term.

Meeker School District, I-95, Office No. 1, 5 year term; and, Office No. 5, Unexpired 4 year term.

Prague School District, I-103, Office No. 1, 5 year term.

Stroud School District, I-54, Office No. 1, 5 year term, and Office No. 4, Unexpired 3 year term.

Wellston School District, I-4, Office No. 1, 5 year term.

White Rock School District, C-5, Office No. 1, 3 year term.

Stover said candidates in the McLoud, Dale and North Rock Creek School Districts may file for Office No. 1 which is a five-year term.

In the Gordon Cooper Vocational Technology School District, candidates may file for Office No. 3. “It’s also a five-year term,” she noted.

In Shawnee, candidates may file for Offices No. 5 and 7 and both are four-year terms, Stover said.

Stover and Stambaugh explained the Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of CHE Election Primary Election scheduled Feb. 9, 2021, and the Board of Education General Election on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. C

If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election. If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the EVROLET total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in HANDLER, the General Election. OK
