Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Meeker Lake “Quapaw 15 Project

A. The camera inspection has been completed. Now we wait on the engineer’s report.

This is the pipeline from the concrete water tower that goes under the dam. Also, the contractor has put the 24-inch pipe back together. So, this phase of the project is complete.

B. We are still waiting on engineering reports from Terracon.

This is the contractor that bored 6 test sites 10’ feet deep. The laboratory will test these 6 soil samples for soil compaction ratios.

2. Update on Glenncrest Park

A. OG&E has completed the engineering on the security lights and will be installed in approx. 1 - 2 weeks.

B. Large rocks have been taken to the park to replace the metal parking post. These rocks measure approximately 2 feet x 3 feet. There will be 2 flower beds at the entrance of the park and smaller rocks will be placed to help accent the beds with flowers and shrubs.

C. The volleyball border is in place and sand is being spread.

D. The basketball court has been power washed to remove debris and grass.

E. The asphalt rubberized sealer has arrived & is waiting to be applied on the basketball court.

F. Today I picked up the 2 new basketball goal assemblies. Shawnee WalMart sponsored one for $326.00 and we bought one for $326.00.

G. The PVC coating for the 2 playground sets are on back-order again due to COVID-19. The factory is hoping to receive shipment on PVC this Friday.

The 2 playground sets are built and just waiting for the PVC protective coating. So, we still have an unknown ship date.

3. Neighborhood Watch

There will be a neighborhood watch meeting at City Hall on Monday, August 24th at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.

4. Canadian Valley Electric replaced the existing night security lights at the Meeker Lake. Approximately 9 new L.E.D. have been installed. Thank you, Canadian Valley Electric.

5. Growth & Development Update

A. A new city brochure has been put together with an update on new businesses. This brochure will be available at City Hall, Banks, Restaurants, Convenience stores, Local Businesses.

B. Several more flowerpots have been sponsored this week by Whiskey Wings and LaDonna’s restaurants.

C. The Pumpkin Festival is still in the plans for October 3rd. A parade will start at 10:30 AM. Line up for the parade will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Meeker High School gym parking lot.

There will be food vendors and a lot of fun games held throughout the day. Come listen to music and possibly a dance at 7:00 PM.

6. Update on Chamber of Commerce

A. Plans are to have a Fall Festival October 31st. The location will be the same as last year at the Meeker High School Bus Barn. Events start that evening.

B. Plan to play golf at the Annual Golf Tournament held at the Chandler Golf course.

This event will be held October 23rd with lunch at 11 AM and tee-times start at noon.

C. Ma & Pa’s Ice Cream store announced new flavors to be added.

D. The Yard of the Month award goes to Mary Madden at 229 Brent Ave.

E. Dickie Walton, Town Administrator, was the guest speaker. He gave them an update on the lake, parks and new grants.

F. Brown Vet Hospital sponsored the lunch from Chick-Fil-A.

G. Guests from Canadian Valley Electric were also present.

Dickie Walton thanked them again for their participation in the $5,000 donation and for replacing the L.E.D. lights at the lake.
