The education sales tax figures in September show a decline from August in all of the three area school districts in Pottawatomie County and for the DA Justice Center, the Pottawatomie County Treasurer’s office reports.

The figures for September are based on retail sales throughout the county during July of 2020.

The Pottawatomie County education sales tax of .495 percent went into effect July 1, 2016 following approval by county voters in November of 2015.

The July taxes were submitted to the Oklahoma Tax Commission in August and distributed back to the county in September.

County Treasurer Wendy Magnus reported the September amount for the McLoud School District is $48,539.37.

In August, the figure was $50,601.59. That’s a decline of more than $2,000.

McLoud has received a total of $406,536.24 from the tax so far in 2020.

Dale School District’s September amount is $23,157.92.

The August check was for $24,141.79. That’s a drop of nearly $1,000.

Dale’s total from the tax this calendar year is $191,610.81.

The figure for the North Rock Creek School District in September is $26,164.11.

In August, it was $27,275.71. It dropped just over $1,100 from the August amount.

Total for 2020 through nine months from the tax is $188,752.59.

The Justice Center’s check in September is $3,709.37. The amount in August was $3,866.97.

The total for the calendar year for the Justice Center from the sales tax is $30,596.55.

The amount directed monthly to each of the schools’ accounts is based on average daily attendance from last year that is submitted to the county treasurer each August.

The amounts schools are now receiving are based on the 2019-2020 school year, Magnus said.

The Citizen Potawatomi Nation has made three distributions this calendar year to the three schools and the Justice Center as a partial match to the sales tax.

The total distribution made to each of the schools and the Justice Center so far this year include: McLoud, $22,010.52; Dale, $10,389.01; North Rock Creek School, $10,412.25; the Justice Center, $1,659.54.
