Matthew James McCarty, 32, of Sparks was charged with domestic assault and battery in presence of minor.

According to the affidavit filed by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sergeant Tanner Hand, Hand was dispatched for an assault call on July 3.

When he arrived on the scene, Hand could hear screaming coming from within the house, according to the affidavit.

Upon entry, Hand saw a white male, later identified as McCarty, pointing a fire extinguisher at a white woman, later identified as McCarty’s mother Ann Hatcher.

According to the affidavit, Hand commanded McCarty to put the fire extinguisher down and step outside.

According to the affidavit, Hatcher said McCarty became erratic and started throwing kitchen knives, stabbing furniture, pouring bleach around the house and on her, then grabbing the fire extinguisher and spraying her with it.

Hand spoke with McCarty who said he had died several times the day before, people were chasing him with guns, someone was in the house trying to hurt him and the air conditioner was on fire, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, McCarty appeared to be in a manic state and suffering from a break from reality.

In a separate case, Thomas Jay Ray Northcutt, 41, of Chandler is being charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

According to the affidavit filed by Lincoln County Sheriff’s officer Jimmy Brown, on July 5, a man walked into the lobby wanting to make a report that his son had beat him with a flashlight.

William told Brown he was working on fixing a television that his son broke when Thomas walked through the front door. William said he tried to stop him from coming through the door, which made Thomas mad, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, William said he was holding a flashlight when Thomas pushed him up against a chair, took the flashlight and began hitting him in the head with it.

Brown observed two small wounds on his head and possibly a third, but couldn’t tell due to the matted blood, according to the affidavit.

Accompanied by Chandler Police officer Dax Phipps and Stroud Police officer Shawn Stewart, Brown went to Williams house to find Thomas, according to the affidavit.
