Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on “Quapaw 15 Project/Meeker Lake

A. We had 2 guests from OWRA, Shawn Garrison and Kelley Matcheson. Kelley and I showed the new guy, Shawn, the lake project and explained to him what we had been told was going to happen at the lake.

Then we visited the water plant and they had some ideas for that. Shawn has just finished a 17 million water plant project in Eastern Oklahoma.

Then we went to the sewer plant. They were impressed with how clean everything was.

They commented about all the grass and weeds being cut. It is good to hear good things being said about any part of our Town.

Then I took them to the monthly Chamber of Commerce meeting and introduced them.

Kelley had mentioned that Shawn was a great spokesman, so we let him talk and explain what all ORWA does. Then we all had a great lunch sponsored by Heartland Pharmacy.

2. Update on “Festival of the Lights” Parade

A. Special recognition goes out to Rep. Kevin Wallace for being our Grand Marshall. Others included: Dick Irwin for letting us play his calliope machine.

This is a keyboard instrument like an organ, having a series of steam whistles. Dick told me he and his brother, Grant, bought it back in 2003 for our Anniversary parade.

It had been stored since Dick’s granddaughter, Michelle Bronson and Joe Gasper, got it out and got it to play so she put it in the parade. Still sounded beautiful.

We will hear more of it at next event.
