Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Quapaw 15 (Meeker Lake)

A. I talked to Valerie Glasgow USDA/ NRCS Design Engineer for this project. She said that A&E Conservation works has completed the study for the Lake and now it goes into a review stage that last 2 months. Then it will go into land negotiations and then out to bid for the actual dirt work. She also said if negotiations go well, we should see work starting next spring.

B. Game, fish and wildlife have come on board to help with amenities such as floating fishing docks, playground

5. The $1.7 mil equipment and other things they help with.

2. Update on Grants

A. We received written confirmation from OWRB that they have given the Town of Meeker the final approval on the $1.7 million dollar sewer line and manhole replacement. This is the 17,000 linear feet of sewer line replacements or rehabbed. This project will be put out to bid by the Cowan Engineer Group. This included a $200K principal forgiveness loan.

B. We had a meeting with Senator James Langford, Northeast Oklahoma Field Representative Jeff Underwood, ORWA Deputy CEO Jimmy Seago, ORWA Chief Operations Officer JR. Welch, ORWA Circuit Rider #3 Sean Garrison, and Project Manager Darrin Willhite about the following projects.

1. Quapaw 15 Project “Meeker Lake” $7.89 mil.

2. Meeker Water Treatment Plant $7.5 mil to $10 mil.

3. The $450,000 waterline CDBG grant.

4. The $150,000 FEMA winter storm damage. sewer line bursting or replacement of the 17,000 linear ft. and approx. 100 manholes rehab or replacement.

6. Other projects mentioned also. They were here on my request to help us with these projects to get them jump started.

3. Update on Streets and Alleys

A. A lot of potholes have been filled with COLD Patch. More than 15 tons of COLD Patch was placed on S. Dawson. These holes will always be a problem, but we will stay after them. The approx. ¼ mile that we will asphalt every year will help with this problem. With the help from COEDD and a Reap Grant, we paved N. and S. Koonce approx. 1300 ft. this year.

4. The Summer Swim Program will take place again this year for our Meeker Residents and children. This is held at the Prague City Pool. Check with Laverne Babinchak for details at BancFirst (405) 279-3535.

5. Independence Day celebration will be held July 3rd. Fireworks will be at the Lake again. More to come on this event. Vendors may call Brandy Osburn 640-7787

6. Update from the Meeker Round Up Club

A. Start your plans for attending this year’s 56th Annual Meeker Rodeo and Parade, which was announced by Dr. Deseree Brown, to be held this year on June 25th and 26th.

7. Update from Meeker Library

A. Friends of the Library announced that the Summer Reading Program will be held again this year at the Meeker Library.
