Area residents at IFYR

Area locals Olivia Alls, Reed Richison and Kenzie Cowden are competing in the International Finals Youth Rodeo which is from June 11-16.

The competition will be at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Olivia Alls is a 2021 graduate from McLoud, and this will be her first time competing in the IFYR. She planned on entering last year, but COVID-19 made that goal impossible. She will be competing in the barrel race, and her favorite event to watch is the bare back riding.

Alls moved to Oklahoma a few years ago with her family from Mississippi, and she began competing in the rodeo after moving to Oklahoma.

Alls said a neighbor taught her and her sister how to ride.

She mostly competes in barrel racing, but sometimes she competes in pole bending. Her favorite horse is named Billie Jean after the iconic Michael Jackson song of the same title.

“It is kind of an addicting passion to have,” Alls said. In the fall, she will be attending Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas. Alls is pursuing a degree toward becoming an EMT/Medic. Her goal is to be able to continue rodeoing after graduation, and by becoming an EMT/Medic she will be able to work at rodeos.
