Reduced meals offered to students

Lincoln County schools have set policy guidelines and prices for free or reduced-price meals for children served under the National School Lunch program, the School Breakfast Program and the After-School Snack Program.

Children from households whose income is at or below specified levels are eligible for free or reducedprice meals. Application forms will be sent to all homes with a letter to parents or guardians.

To apply for free or reduced-price meals, households should fill out the application and return it to the school. Additional copies are available at the principal’s office in each school. The information provided on the application is confidential. Applications may be submitted any time during the year.

Households receiving SNAP, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation benefits must list each child’s name, the related SNAP, TANF or FDPIR case number and the signature of an adult household member.

Foster children also categorically qualify for free meals/milk, regardless of the child’s income. If you have foster children living with you and wish to apply for such meals or milk for them, complete the application as instructed.

The superintendent of your local school or other designated official will review applications and determine eligibility. Parents or guardians wishing to make a formal appeal can make a request either verbally or in writing to the president of the local school board for a hearing to appeal the decision.

Educational institutions are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

Each school has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.
