COVID keeps climbing

The number of new positive COVID-19 cases in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties is still rising but the pace has slowed some, the most recent Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show.

Also, three new deaths have been recorded in Lincoln County, according to the OSDH, but remained the same in Pottawatomie County.

The OSDH has begun reporting the breakdown of deaths and new cases on a weekly basis rather than daily.

The agency is releasing that information on Wednesdays so the most recent numbers provided here are from Aug. 25 since this week’s edition went to press Tuesday night, Aug. 31. There have been 134

There have been 134 deaths in Pottawatomie County attributed to COVID-19, and that is the same since the last report.

Lincoln County now has 79 reported deaths, three up from last week.

The number of new positive tests in Pottawatomie County rose by 214 and in Lincoln County they increased by 126, according to figures provided by the OSDH.

Between the two counties, the number of positive tests jumped by 340 from the most recent report by the OSDH. The previous report had that number increasing by 366.

Lincoln County’s latest number is 3,882. It was 3,756 at the last report.

The number of people testing positive for the virus in Pottawatomie County now stands at 9,515. Last report it was 9,301.

The total number testing positive in the two counties now stands at 13,397.

Total number of people who have recovered in the two counties is now 12,630, up by 315 the OSDH said. In Pottawatomie County, 9,012 have recovered and 3,608 have recovered in Lincoln County.

The OSDH reported as of Aug. 25 statewide, 530,594 people have tested positive, compared to 515,801 at the last report. There have been 7,812 Oklahoma provisional deaths, last week’s reporting showed 7,676. And active cases stand at 23,492. Last report they were 23,380.

The OSDH has stopped reporting total number of recovered statewide.
