Co-driver charged in I-44 dustup

A co-driver of a semi-tractor truck faces a felony and a misdemeanor following a reported altercation recently on the Turner Turnpike.

Formal charges were filed on Aug. 31 in Lincoln County District against Ashila Lee Holmes, 25. She is charged with a felony of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor of assault and battery.

Special Judge Emily Mueller set bond at $10,000 with the stipulation that she have no contact with the victim.

Holmes made her initial appearance on Sep. 2. Judge Mueller set a pre-preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 2. The judge ordered Holmes to have an attorney on that date.

In the felony count, Holmes is accused of striking Hubert Williams in the head with a hammer in Lincoln County on July 27, 2021. Williams reportedly is a semi-tractor truck driver and Holmes is a co-driver.

The misdemeanor charges Holmes with striking Williams on the head and neck with her hands and scratching his neck.

State Trooper Ian Rozier states in a probable cause affidavit that he was dispatched to an incident that occurred at the Midway, mile marker 178, on the Turner Turnpike in Lincoln County.

The trooper said Williams told him Holmes struck him with a hammer.

Rozier stated he did notice a small knot on the right side of Williams’ forehead. Williams informed him in detail of the alleged incident that occurred over an argument concerning company policy about the air conditioner.

When the trooper contacted Holmes, she acknowledged they gotten into an argument and reportedly stated they only pushed each other, denying she hit him with a hammer.

The trooper said Holmes was extremely vague with her story and that she had a hard time remembering what all had happened.

He took her into custody and took her to the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler.
