Bridge replaced on Eighth Street

Construction is continuing on the Eighth Street bridge project in Chandler. City Manager James Melson said a 64-feet concrete box with wing walls is being constructed to replace the bridge that washed out a few months back with the heavy rains. He said the Chandler City Council awarded the bid to Downey Contractors. Total cost is running around $104,000 with the city of Chandler providing the materials and Downey being paid about $70,000 for the construction. Melson said it’s similar to an ODOT project. Work began around Aug. 20, Melson said, and he is hoping the project can be completed by Oct. 25. Photo/Brian Blansett.
