Town Talk

A representative from Adventure Golf out of Michigan stopped by this past Sunday on his way to Texas for a hunting trip.

He checked out our golf course and answered some questions we had about the set-up of the course.

Town Talk members David Evans and Julie Bivin joined me to make sure we got all our questions answered. The representative assured me they are only a phone call away.

As I have stated previously, they are a great company and offer fantastic customer support. David worked on the golf course Monday of this week, and it is really beginning to take shape.

Lyndon Patton of Patton’s Produce has offered to help us with some landscaping. It is a community effort.

Thank you to Cathy Terry and Andrea Thompson of Unique Market for the new pansies in the downtown flowerpots.

We are fortunate to have two plant businesses in town both owned by community minded owners. Thanks to both companies for always supporting Town Talk projects.

My dear friend, Delores Hamlin, celebrated her 93rd birthday this week. Delores is still very active with the Stroud Food Pantry, American Legion Auxiliary and her church, St. Louis Catholic Church.

If you see her out and about, be sure to wish her a belated happy birthday. We will help her keep the celebration going. My niece, C’Anne Patterson Smalley, also, celebrated her birthday this week. As Delores turned 93, C’Anne turned 39. Don’t blink. It goes by so quickly as I am sure Delores can attest.

First Bank & Trust Company held a community flag raising last week in honor of the new flag they have placed on their Main Street property.

It was a wonderful ceremony but if you happened to miss it you may watch it on Facebook. Stroud’s own production company Deep Fork Productions filmed the ceremony.

We have it all right here in our hometown! I have heard so many wonderful comments from Stroud residents about how much they love the flag.

With our veterans’ banners hanging on Main Street and our flags waving, I think we send out a positive message about our community to those traveling down Route 66. We are Stroud Proud.

David Evans told me a funny story this week. He said he saw a turkey on Facebook and the price for the turkey was $80. Someone commented that they could catch a turkey, shoot it in front of a game warden, pay the fine and still get off cheaper than $80.

I am not suggesting you do that, but I do suggest you shop locally and see if you can find a better price on turkey than that.

If not, at least we keep that $80 right here in our own backyard. If we buy enough turkeys locally, maybe we will get more streets repaved. I was driving on Seventh Street and made a left onto Eleventh Avenue and thought how smooth the road was and how nice it was to be able to drive that road again without having to dodge all those potholes. Former Stroud resident Ann Porch Hogue used to say if she ever won the Publishing Clearing House’s award, she was going to pave that road. Well, we got it done without that money, and I know Ann would be so happy! I think it happened because we all started shopping……………….. local! Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local first. Let’s keep it up.
