Prague falls to OCA

The Prague Red Devils saw their season come to an end last Friday night when they were defeated 34-8 by the Oklahoma Christian Saints in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Prague Coach Mike Hedge said his team’s overall record was 7-4. “I am happy with our effort last Friday night,” he said.

“We were a beat up bunch, a wounded team. We had eight kids standing on the sidelines the other night due to injuries who had started at one time or another,” Hedge commented.

Hedge said of Oklahoma Christian, “They’re solid. They controlled the ball by running it. They were solid defensively and I think the best defensive team we had faced all year.”

The coach noted, “We fumbled twice deep in their territory just before halftime and we really never recovered from that.”

Elaborating on Prague’s injury situation, Hedge pointed out, “I lost three starters from the Jones game until the playoffs. I guess the good thing is a lot of young kids got playing time that normally wouldn’t have.

“It just seemed when the injuries started, they snowballed on us. I lost my starting tailback on Wednesday before the playoff game when he got hurt in practice,” he continued.

Though the season ended, Hedge said he was pleased the Red Devils were 7-3 heading into the playoffs and finished 7-4 for the year.

Hedge said he has all of his backfield with the exception of his senior quarterback returning next season and a lot of young players who have gained experience who will help us next year. “We had a good season except for the injuries,” Hedge finished.
