Pickup runs over driver

A Meeker man suffered injuries last Saturday evening when his vehicle struck him on SH 18 north of Meeker.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Conner Fryrear, who investigated the crash, identified the injured man as Gerald Cooper, 79.

The trooper reported Cooper was transported by Chandler EMS to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee and was admitted in fair condition with leg injuries.

Fryrear said Cooper was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on SH 18 and that Cooper thought he had placed the vehicle in park and gotten out. The pickup continued traveling north, striking Cooper.

The pickup left the road to the left, traveling through a fence.

The trooper listed cause of the collision as improper parked position.

The collision occurred a few minutes after 9 p.m., the trooper reported.

Fryrear, of the Lincoln County Detachment of Troop A, was assisted by Trooper Hunn of the same Detachment, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks and Chandler Fire Departments and Chandler EMS.
